Kalviai Afforestation project mainly focuses on saving and increasing biodiversity in deteriorated areas. The project is comprised of 7 hectares near Kalviai in Lithuania. Most of the land plots are grass, therefore dominating species planted, regenerated or saved are birch, dark adler with a mix small mix of pine's in dry areas. 

New saplings going to be planted more scarcely so local bushes, tall grasses can develop as well so form natural shelters for animals. The whole project is built for purpose increasing biodiversity, creating habitats for wildlife and protecting current forests without cutting any of them.

The small-scale voluntary Project Activity (VPA) “Water and Climate VPA#1 – Madhya Pradesh, India” aims at providing safe drinking water to rural and tribal communities in the tribal belt of Central India. The VPA supplies up to 30,000 households (approx. 150,000 people) in tribal communities in Khandwa and Barwani District of Madhya Pradesh with safe drinking water through Solar Water Disinfection (SODIS) with the UV indicator WADI. The method will ensure safe drinking water supply for households that depend on unsafe water due to common barrier factors or are currently boiling water using non-renewable fuel sources. The VPA includes additional project activities to strengthen the intervention. The aim is to reduce the burden of insufficient access to safe drinking water and the related prevalence of health issues like waterborne diseases for communities and individuals through a holistic and multi-faceted intervention approach.

The project activity involves bundling 10,000 household biogas plants in states of India of varying capacities – 2m3, 3m3, 4m3 and 6m3. Plants covered under the project activity are commissioned from February 2020 onwards. The purpose of the project is to replace the commonly used inefficient wood fired mud stoves technology, with clean, sustainable and efficient biogas. Each household utilizes cow dung to feed the digester for the production of biogas for cooking purposes and heating water. This leads to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by displacing conventionally used non renewable biomass with renewable biogas. In addition, the hygienic conditions in the rural areas will be improved by an appropriate disposal of waste. Further, residue from the bio digesters can be used as organic fertilizer and will improve soil conditions in rural areas. Project activity will contribute towards sustainable development by replacing firewood with biogas generated from the biodigesters.

The Jaguar Amazon REDD Project consists of 183.015 hectares of rainforest, located in the Peruvian Amazon, only 385 km from the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of the Incas”. It is located less than 20 km to the side of the new inter-oceanic road that unites Brazil with the Peruvian ports. Situated among the Tahuamanu, Muymanu and Manuripe river basins, the project area is among the biologically richest places on the planet, housing more plant and animal species than most places with the same surface in the world.

The project area holds a surprising high number of jaguars -one of the highest recorded in the world- reflecting its astonishing state of conservation. This charismatic boutique project will drastically reduce deforestation and protect the habitat of endangered species. The project is located in Peru, in the south-east of Madre de Dios Department, in the province of
Tahuamanu (districts of Iñapari, Iberia and Tahuamanu). The project area (PA) comprises the
consolidated Otorongo and Chullachaqui areas covering a total of 183,015 hectares. The
coordinates of each concession that make up the consolidated project are shown in Annex 1.
The project is based on the sustainable forest management of certified wood from the consolidated
“Inversiones Forestales Chullachaqui SAC” and “Forestal Otorongo SAC”.
Consolidated “Inversiones Forestales Chullachaqui'' is managed by the company Inversiones
Forestales Chullachaqui SAC, formed by the merge of 4 adjacent concessions, which have made
the consolidation of the respective areas in order to optimize the sustainable use of forest resources
and enter as a block to the Voluntary Forest Certification process. Similarly, Otorongo Consortium
is composed of six concessions, with Forestal Otorongo SAC as the holders of those concessions.

Both consolidated companies represent forestry companies that have signed permanent-
production-forest concession contracts with the Peruvian State for a period of 40 renewable years

Alex Astral Power Private Limited (AAPPL) has installed a 25 MW solar photovoltaic power plant at Patan district in Gujarat. This project activity is a greenfield solar photovoltaic power project. The purpose of the project activity is to generate electrical energy utilising solar energy and export the generated electricity to the Unified Indian Grid. 
In absence of the project activity equivalent amounts of electricity would have been generated in the state electricity grid. Thus the project activity would result in avoidance of Greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to mitigation of global warming. The project activity was commissioned on 4th March 2012.
Contribution of the project activity to sustainable development: The project contributes to the general well being of the region and is in line with the sustainable development policies of the host country. Social well being: The project activity leads to employment generation during installation as well as operation phase of the project activity. Economic well being: The project activity provides a fillip to economic activity in the region. Direct & indirect employment have been generated in the plant for the project implementation, operation & management. The success of this project encourages more business to be developed in the local region thus bringing in economic prosperity in the region. Environmental well being: The project being a renewable energy power project would contribute to mitigation of global warming. Also the project activity also would not lead to any air pollution unlike fossil fuel based power plants. Technological well being: The project activity involves installation of 25 MW solar photovoltaic power plant. Solar power plant of this scale is yet to be implemented in this country. Thus the project activity leads to technological up- gradation in the solar energy generation market.

Impact project: Zeroniu || SOLD OUT

Founded in 2009, the Santa Maria REDD (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation in Forest Degradation) Project is based in the town of Colniza, in the north of Mato Grosso, Brazil.

The region is part of Brazil’s Amazon Forest and the ‘Arc of Deforestation,’ where the agricultural border is rapidly advancing due to extensive deforestation. Santa Maria encompasses 500 thousand km² of land, going from the east and south of the Brazilian state of Pará towards the west, passing through the states of Mato Grosso, Rondônia, and Acre.

The FSM-REDD project was founded with the goal of local preservation and will prevent more than an estimated 20 million tons of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere over the next 30 years. More than 71,7140 hectares of the rich biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest will now be preserved, an area equivalent to the size of the city of New York.

The project is certified following the VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) and SocialCarbon protocols, in addition to the implementation of a rigorous monitoring system in the region that ensures the proper preservation of the project area.

Through its commitment to socio-environmental development at the local level, the project activities include a partnership with a state government park nearby in order to introduce a new fire department and other resources to the area..

The Santa Maria Project also fosters initiatives that are economical and ecologically viable. For example, the project promotes technical environmental education for the local youth in a partnership with the government of the municipality of Colniza.

The aim of the project is to disseminate the tools necessary to prevent the overexploitation of the forest and its deforestation while pursuing local development.

The Parque Nacional Cordillera Azul (PNCAZ) project prevents the deforestation of intact montane forests that cover an area of ​​more than 1.35 million hectares in an area with very high endemism and biodiversity. The project area runs across seven provinces and four departments of the Peruvian Amazon: San Martín, Ucayali, Huánuco and Loreto. The park and its buffer zone were legally recognized by the Peruvian government in 2001. The Total Administration Contract was signed on August 8, 2008 between CIMA and the Peruvian Government’s National Protected Areas Department (SERNAP).

Approximately 300,000 people, who live in more than 530 villages and indigenous communities, are neighbors of the park. Villagers near the park mainly practice subsistence farming and those closest to the main roads also participate in commercial activities.

The project achieves its main objective of preventing deforestation through control and surveillance activities in particularly vulnerable areas of the park. In addition, the project also involves neighboring communities and other stakeholders interested in conservation management and land use activities in its activities.

The project has issued 25,241,003 Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) to date, avoiding deforestation of more than 68 thousand hectares of forest land.

Co-Benefits

The project has contributed to an improved quality of life of various communities.

24 native communities with communal participatory zoning (ZPC), live in the 246,192-hectare area, where the area’s geography and economic ecological zoning is being researched.
38 communities are applying social harmony (“coexistence”) standards.
34 strategic Quality of Life Plans have been established setting out priorities that consider the quality of life in five areas: 1) social, 2) economic, 3) environmental, 4) political and 5) cultural.
The high-quality management of the Park has been recognized by the prestigious Green List Global Protected Areas Program of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The forests which span from lowlands (150 meters) to mountain peaks (2,400 meters) of the project area are home to an abundance of biodiversity. They are home to 4,000 to 6,000 different plants, 120 species of wildlife, including the short eared dog, Atelocynus microtis, the Andean bear, ten primates and herds of peccaries, and 600 species of birds, as well as 70 different species of amphibians, 41 reptiles and about 200 species of fish.

Additional Impacts

The PNCAZ project has transitioned from relying on donations to being funded by a loan guaranteed by VCUs. This was formalized through a Loan Agreement and an Agency Contract with Althelia Climate Fund.

The loan included a dedicated fund for investments in sustainable economic projects to be developed in the buffer zone for the benefit of the park’s neighboring population. To date there is a processing plant for cocoa that will serve more than 600 farmers in the area when it reaches its maximum operational capacity.
